This project was developed by Raphaela Pereira as a student from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

Considering the exercise suggested for the 4th semester in our college, where we had to project a public school located in Lapa, a region close to São Paulo’s downtown, in Brazil. In our country, we have a big problem with public equipment as hospitals, schools, plazas and so many others. Public schools are the ones that suffer the most, because of the low budget provided by the city, besides the bad care and the lack of reforms.

Unfortunately, children live in a gray environment, with no place to play or socialize, having their desire to study diminished day by day, and thinking about this problem, we decided to bring greatness and importance to the school, to show how learning and well-being of children is fundamental for building a better country and future. And besides that, in our terrain, we found a green area, which we reallocate, creating a great coexistence place, that is not just integrated with the school, but also with the two streets that connects the plaza.

This plaza was a fundamental requirement for our project, we wanted to give a big importance to it, making it special, and inviting everyone to use it. As we have a big and irregular slope between the two extremes, we thought about playing a little bit with this point, and use the relief in our favor, and with that, we’ve created a ramp, that cross the field from it extremes, connecting the streets, the school with the green area, and with the other areas in the plaza, as the auditorium and the place for kids.

And after all we’ve created a unique and strong architectonic party, which has imposing elements, that together, are united in one objective, that is the well-being and conviviality of the people who use to be there.
