Across the border

This project was developed by Emanuele Carrai as a student from University of Pisa and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Residential category.

The special position of this complex led to the purpose to create a dialogue between the city and the country through this area, allowed by the organization of row houses in semi-open blocks which face either existing buildings or the open space. The semi-open blocks are pure white volumes, made of only two materials, from which were subtracted some smaller volumes to create windows and deep lodges to bring light inside not directly. Then the design process concentrated most on the interiors of the houses, trying to define a space for modern way of dwelling: the result is a fluid living area, regulated only by a central box which includes all the furnitures and services.
