[A&O Gallery] In Itaewon Korea

This project was developed by HYUN JOON KIM as a student from College of Architecture in Myoungji University and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

[A&O Gallery] is Ambiguosity & Overlap Gallery. The Gallery which design is based on Le Cor Buiser’s “Moduler” Theory. Modularity is the degree to which a system can be broken into its components. In software Engineering, this simple but powerful concept extends to say that the best solution to your design challenge isn’t one giant task, but a system of separate and mostly-independent sub-tasks working together towards a common goal. Module also has a lot of benefits.

In A&O Gallery 3 big modules mingle with in order which makes horizontal space ambiguous. And also overlapping the modules make vertical space to cariety of new phases. With in this two big main concept, The A&O Gallery contains variety sort of programs as it is located on Itaewon.

Itaewon has many layers of urban fabrics including the layers of many different ethnicities and the history. South Korea as a homogeneous country, Itaewon is the only community where different backgrounds can comfortably come and mingle. So diverse cultures and programs mingle in this Gallery As it can make intersection among all of these programs in the Gallery.
