Cloud Walk

This project was developed by Jaakko Torvinen as a student from Aalto University and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

Cloud Walk

Cloud Walk is my design for Kallio Block Party street festival. I designed the Cloud Walk for location called “Piritori” but it had to fit to two other destinations in Helsinki too. Cloud Walk lets people walk high above the streets and plaza and at the same time it creates spaces and new perspectives.

It takes you higher than ten meters and like a rollercoaster: up and down. You can walk between tree branches or stop for a moment and enjoy the view.

Under the structures there are natural places for sales and between the routes are room for performances where to people can see from Cloud Walk.

The idea of rising above the streets and to follow path like in a adventure inspired me to create Cloud Walk.

First sketch was line drawing with idea of people walking in clouds. Next step was doing model from cushion board which was easy material for quick and flexible modeling. After I was satisfied with design I remade it with plywood which I bended with water.
