Design of Residential Bungalow
The soul purpose of this Design is to serve the functional, physical and aesthetical needs of the family of a Corporate Executive, who is on the verge of retirement from service. The person desires a Bungalow which is blend to nature. Where he will reside with his wife , son, daughter-in-law and grandson. Also, his married daughter who will pay a visit occasionally with spouse and stay for some days.
Design has several definitions and to my interpretation, it is the arrangement of elements to serve the needs of the user.
The site is a corner plot located in the city of Kolkata in India.
About the design, the elements are arranged to make it easy for the user to access and utilise all functions. The is old as he is in the verge of his retirement so his bed room is placed in the ground floor in the south-west side as it receives the maximum wind in summer in this region of India.
The kitchen is placed at the east as the user will not favour heat of the screeching sun while working all day. The Stair is placed centrally for easy access by all the rooms of the house.
For the Guest Room, the toilet might not be functional if there are no guests, so to avoid this the room is accessed by two door. The first one is provided so that at night while the guest is present, the person should be able to use the toilet as his/her personal toilet. In favour of Privacy. And when there are no guests, the room will be locked but the first door to the room will always be open for the common use of the toilet.
A Pent house is build adjacent to the roof which has got a pinch a studio housing flavour to spend leisure time. An out house is given for the servant who will work in the house and there is a service entry from the staircase room for them.
In the Design, there is also an attempt to combine the modern and traditional style of Architecture. The south facing elevation has got a pitched roof under which there is a sitting space to enjoy the beautiful backyard to spend time with family and friends.
