This project was developed by Michele Roncoroni as a student from ETH Zürich and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

The aspiration of the project is to show the little nuance between a material link and an intrinsic and more personal, abstract bound and how do they mutually react.

After the analysis of the neighbourhood of the Free University of Berlin I´ve come to the conclusion that the gates of the campus should have been open to the community.

The project aims to invert the negative trend of the past years. And it will take advantage from sport and recreational activities. An athletic runway generates a closed circuit linking three different parts of the environs: the university itself with the main building of Candilis Josic Wood, the adjacent park, and the residential district.

In the park, the disposition of landscape elements such as benches, greenery or pathways show the way to fallow, meanwhile where the circuit meets a major circulation ways it becomes an elevated walkway passing through the simple structure osf a sport pavilion.

In the urban sector the route is clearly indicated by a blue athletic runway on ground level. Here you can find four different playgrounds.

Finally, an elevated boardwalk leads to the roofs of the campus, where bigger sport facilities such as football, tennis and volleyball fields are planned.

The main point of the entire project is the internal renovation preserving the facades of the central building of the campus, so strongly emphasized by an elevated rotunda on the adjacent courtyard, which is linked to the circuit.
