Museum of Manufacture

This project was developed by Kseniia Katasonova as a student from Saint-Petersburg mining university and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

Saint Petersburg is one of the leading industrial centers in Russia. The city is historically famous for its inventions and innovations, introduction and development of new technologies.

Museum of Manufacture, is devoted to the history of technology development. The Museum is a completely new and unique type of building that not only must fit into the environment, but also form a transformed space around itself, giving it a new social and cultural significance.

In this object an attempt is made to combine in itself two principles – natural and architectural, equally present in the environment.

The project is at the junction of two opposite worlds, which must harmoniously develop and coexist, mutually intertwining. The main idea of the composite image is to assimilate and reflect the already existing natural-town-planning situation, its harmonization and interpenetration. Vertical terracing emphasizes the presence of high slopes, forming asymmetry of the composition.
