Restoration and rehabilitation of the rural complex Urtubiaga

This project was developed by Mikel Quintana Astondoa as a student from ETSASS UPV/EHU and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Housing category.

The project raises an integral action in a semi-rural environment already built. On the one hand I restore and rehabilitate the mill endowing it with new uses linked to the leisure, in the other hand I make an arrangement staggered of rural apartments more linked to the tourism. All this in order to complement an ecological / cultural tour from the center of Ea’s urban core spreads towards the zone of the project.

The territorial analysis to different scales, and the approximation to the chosen environment, both have served as solid bases for the resolution of the presented problems, proposing an alternative proyectual complex.

One seeks to reinforce the tourist potential of the town with a new itinerary that takes the visitor up to the foundry Urtubiaga, in a tour of great natural and cultural value that follows the old water canal. This ecological itinerary starts from the center of the town, across the tracing of the river, showing Urtubiaga’s historical and patrimonial legacy.
