Start-up Office Building in Pera Orinis Village, Cyprus

This project was developed by Gavriella Peppou as a student from Frederick University Cyprus and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

http://The plot that we were assigned is located in a mountainous village of Cyprus Pera Oreinis. The village is characterized by traditional houses and from various altitudes due to its mountainous location. The plot is positioned on the river bank and it neighbours with the cultural centre, the church and the village square which both residents and visitors use daily. Due to its location the plot is also affected by the various altitudes with the difficulty of incorporating the levels in our design, which is a Start-up building with temporary accommodation spaces. The way of approaching the subject was to integrate this building into the village so that there is daily use and access to the open areas by the inhabitants of the village. This would offer the residents something new and lively. We chose to place the public spaces in the ground floor of the structure to provide accessibility to the public. The main entrance of the building is located between the cultural centre and the church of Holy Mary and in order to enter either of the buildings one of the routes created from the levels needs to be followed. On the ground floor we find the reception and a library which will also be used as an exhibition space whenever necessary. Additionally on this floor we have the manager’s office and a coffee shop. On the first floor we find the employees’ offices which are formed in an open space arrangement, 2 more private offices and 2 conference rooms. In the main building there is also the staircase which connects the two floors. The temporary accommodation spaces, the library, the living room, the coffee shop and the offices in these two floors have a view of the river and the greenery of the area. The transition through the outer spaces is feasible via the multi altitude levels that where created. Additionally there is a path starting from the elevated courtyard, passing on the building roof and leading to a secondary entrance to the first floor offices. By using this design the building and all its outer spaces are accessible from all sides of the plot.
