This project was developed by Julia Bertino as a student from Frederick University and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

STARTUPS ENTERPRISES ΙΝ PERA CHORIO VILLAGE- The main idea of the project was the construction of a complex of buildings that could fulfill successfully the needs of a start-up enterprise company in the area of a small village named Pera Chorio in the suburbs of the Capital of the Mediterranean island Cyprus, Nicosia. The plot is located in the centre of the village an it’s surrounded by the village square, the local town hall and the local church. The plot is separated horizontally by different altitudes an ends at the lowest point where the village river is located which is landmark for the village because of the important role that played in the creation of the village in the early years because it provided fresh water to the residents of the area. The idea was to create this center in a modern way blending with the surrounding environment. First of all the village is composed by houses that follow the continues construction and are consisted of only one floor, so the new building was placed consecutively on the different altitudes with only one floor on each one, and the continues connection between each building and the way they are placed in the plot will be a parallelism with the route of the form of the water that starts from the highest point and ends up at lowest without interruption. The theme of the water was chosen because of it’s important role in the creation of the village. Furthermore the placement was done in a way that we maintain the natural altitudes and vegetation of the plot, without interrupting the optical relation of the village and the river. Also the route that is created from within the building , services the same idea ,providing at the same time all the facilities needed for a center like this. Including a restaurant, receptions, offices, meeting rooms ,a research center a showroom-venue hall and some units that can accommodate the members of the center that will be staying there.(328words)
