The tube

This project was developed by Christina Battikha as a student from American University of Beirut and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Residential category.

The Tube is a tower with 26 residential floors having a view onto the Mediterranean sea and 3 public floors on the, basement , ground and first floors. The public function of the tube is a gateway to the American University of Beirut as well as a public daycare. The residential floors serve as faculty housing to the University. The tube is a perfect square following the proportions of the golden rectangle as it fits the plot on the edge of AUB.   Its different apartment types (Single, Double. and triple bedroom apartments) are also split according to the golden ratios reflecting on the facades. A lit and ventilated circulation shaft is carved through the building as it also hosts the building’s drainage system. The building’s infrastructure therefore contrasts with the pure form and geometry throughout the building.
