VILLA FOR PIANIST

This project was developed by Haoyou Bu as a student from University of Liverpool and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Housing category.

The site of this project located in Suzhou old district(21.5mx14m), surrounded by local traditional house which has white volume and dark tile. This site adjoined to an alley and small traditional garden. In addition, the client was a pianist, who has a unique requirement for a practice room.

The basic concept was introducing the natural element into the building, just like the Chinese traditional garden, which has plant, pond and naturalness stone. In this design. Sunken pond, green courtyard and natural lighting box form a diverse scenery. By rambling through the building, the experience of nature would relax the body and peace the mind. In addition, Large amount of half open space or called “grey” space creating more opportunity to touch the outdoor space.

The building has white volume covered by dark roof. As same as the bonding wall, which makes the whole building blend in to the surroundings harmoniously. Large french windows were used to reduce the blocking between outside and inside. In addition, the practice room was placed at underground level to reduce the acoustics affects to neighborhood.
