This project was developed by KRISTINA SINKARUK as a student from VILNIUS GEDIMINAS TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Facilities category.

Vilnius City History Museum was my final bachelor’s thesis. My main goal was to emphasize historical and cultural roots of Vilnius. The site was chosen on the confluence of two rivers – Neris and Vilnia. During my research, i found out, that this is the place, where the city of Vilnius was created.

This history museum combines every aspect of surrounding area – river, mountain, and bridge. The main idea was to create building – ramp or building – path, which would serve people as new connection of this historical place and Bernardinu garden, Cathedral square etc.

One half of 3 part of the building is beneath the ground, in the mountain. The idea behind it is that this Stalas mountain is very old, and interior spaces should show people all cultural layers, which were forming for centuries.

All interior spaces consists of o number of ramps. The big spiral – is for galleries, as people could go up, and see all the expositions, by exploring the scene. A little ramp is for visitors to return back to the ground floor, which is below -2,5m under the ground.
