Wrapping Rural Memory

This project was developed by Guanzhou Ji as a student from ZHEJIANG UNIVERSITY CITY COLLEGE and was submited to the WAS awards 2017 under the Housing category.

This is a 5-year’s architecture undergraduate graduation design&thesis finished on June, 2017.

Taking Paishao village of Qiannan, Guiyang, China as the object, this project is to be a residential renewal for the local area. Based on the information and data of field research, on-site mapping and feedbacks of the questionnaire, urban design and architectural design are proceed. Focused on the existing wooden structure in Guiyang mountains, the indoor space, road structure among the village are taken into consideration. Those traditional elements are living memory for local people. According to the different function and special requirements of modern housing, the wooden structure is developed in different spatial possibilities, which make different interior space. The new-added corridors serve as walking connection for separate housing buildings. Also, it divides automobile and pedestrian circulation into different areas. Thus, based on existing building layout, this project brings the new housing groups and explores various interior space.
